The art of Business

Business is War
- A japanese proverb

Sun Tzu was a military general from the state of Ch'i . He wrote the earliest -- and still the most revered military treatise in the world. This masterpiece is best known to most of us as The art of war.
Just my observations and interpreations, how far what he has told about war is in relevance with the different facets of day to day life in the corporate war.

I. LAYING PLANS

The Art of War

(1) Which of the two sovereigns is imbued with the Moral law?
(2) Which of the two generals has most ability?
(3) With whom lie the advantages derived from Heaven and Earth?
(4) On which side is discipline most rigorously enforced?
(5) Which army is stronger?
(6) On which side are officers and men more highly trained?
(7) In which army is there the greater constancy both in reward and punishment?

The Art of Business

(1) Which Company has the best policies and practices?
(2) Does it has an able CEO and board of directors?
(3) Does the company has investor confidence, faith of the consumer/customer?
(4) Does the employees are loyal to the company?
(5) Is the company financially sound?
(6) Does the company gives much emphazize to training it's employees?
(7) Does the company recognizes and rewards the performers appropriately?

The Art of War

Now the general who wins a battle makes many calculations in his temple ere the battle is fought. The general who loses a battle makes but few calculations beforehand. Thus do many calculations lead to victory, and few calculations to defeat: how much more no calculation at all!

The Art of Business

A company which spends a lot of time in planning, strategy, research is bound to succeed in it's initiatives.

Hope i will give a detailed version in the forthcoming posts and will deal with all the nine chapters of the book
